Yoga Tattva Mudra Vigyan – Healing with Hand Mudras

Yoga is often perceived as a physical practice of postures that helps an individual’s flexibility, balance, and strength. It is also often seen as a form of exercise that includes breathing techniques that helps facilitate calmness, peace of mind, and relaxation within an individual. A daily yoga asana practice helps a practitioner reach their utmost inner potential with these yoga practices and techniques. But, we often overlook the psycho-spiritual and psycho-physiological subtleties that shows how yoga is an internal practice that goes beyond the superficial.

As we continue to practice yoga asanas, pranayama, concentration, and meditation, we begin to feel the subtle affects within our bodies, minds, and internal consciousnesses. And what helps with this deeper understanding and cultivation of internal energy are mudras or postures of the hands.

“Breathe through life.” He told me. “Breathe in consciously, and breathe out deeply. That is one piece of advice I give to you young kids.”

Couple of weeks ago, I came across a beautiful soul who told me something that resonates with my being. He was a cancer patient who stayed for a few weeks at City of Hope. Back in his young days, he was a professional surfer who travelled and took part in competitions around the world thanks to his sponshorship by Quicksilver and Billabong. He also was a devoted student of Kundalini Yoga teacher, Yogi Bhajan.

Fear causes inner pain and I understand that a lot of us just want out. We want to run away from our problems or the reality of life altogether.

But, when you’re not afraid to be quiet with yourself, to face your inner demons, to heal that which needs to be healed from the core, you’ll no longer need alcohol, cigarettes, overeating, workaholism, emotional materialism, pain killers or other numbing distractions.
